Chiara Bellamoli
Freiheim
Freiheim documents the lives of women across Germany who chose to live full time in a mobile home. Through collaborative portraiture and reportage, it explores their intimate spaces and their landscapes, trying to understand the reasons why “van life” represents a dream for many. These women gave up a fixed dwelling and most of their belongings to be mobile. They did it to live differently: more intuitively and intensively, more attuned to nature and to their own basic needs. Always on the road, they embrace life’s impermanence in a journey both physical and mental. I was allowed to accompany them for a short time in their search for individual freedom and self-determination, trying to capture their emotions, their dream.
